On his latest adventure, South Coast Golf Tour Director Dave Fluke has been stateside to South Carolina, USA where he was lucky enough to play on the famous Ocean Course at none other than The Kiawah Island Golf Resort.
Having played host to some of the biggest championships in the world and many golfing legends, it is one of the most renowned courses in the world. Built to expose golfers to the area’s strong winds, the sheer amount of slopes and bunkers mean that this course is hugely challenging even for elite golfers…So would it prove too much for our very own Dave?
Here he weighs up the pros and cons of bringing The South Coast Golf Tour to Kiawah Island.
Pros
- Famous Championships – this course has hosted both 2012 PGA and the 2007 Senior PGA championships, making it one of only four courses to have hosted each of the PGA of America’s major Championships. It really is where the best of the best have played.
- Huge variety – the course measures a 7320 yards off the back tee and is just out of this world. It challenges you both mentally and physically; every hole being so different from the last. With rough and marshland everywhere it is certainly a testing round of golf, not to mention the incredibly strong winds, oh, and a few gators along the way.
- Stunning views – the course landscapes and the sea views across the Atlantic Ocean are simply breathtaking, with 10 holes right alongside the sea – you can even sunbathe next to the 18th green.
- Tip top customer service – from arrival to departure the customer service is second to none. I was treated like a champion – it was as if I were Rory Mcllroy, 2012 PGA Champion. I could get used to that!
Cons
- It’s a very long way to go…
